eeping aside few predefined rules of pronunciation Korean, Korean script is pretty straight forward to pronounce. The words are pronounced the way they are written, and unlike English where there are many exceptions, Korean has very few exceptions. There are few rules where consonant plus consonant make new sound. We will deal with it coming topics.
Korean words are combination of characters/alphabets and this combination makes one syllable. Combination of these syllables makes words.
Reading of words is done with reading of first syllable and simultaneous reading of the second syllable.
An example in English is like: Water is combination of 2 syllables 1. WA 2. TER, but the combined word is pronounced as water.
Same wise in Korean : ?? (promise) it is combination of 2 syllables ? (yak) and ? (sok) , SO THE reading will be yaksok. All the syllables in a single word are read in the same breath.
Phonetic assimilation in Korean is frequent. It means the actual pronunciation is different from what is written. But the ease here in Korean is that rules are predefined. The phonetic assimilation is mainly related to the consonant combination. The last consonant of first syllable and first syllable of second syllable, make the rule of final reading/pronunciation. In other words, there are few basic set of consonants which create a totally new sound depending of there position in the word. These consonants are given in tabular format for your ease.
